Left Orbit Temple

Left Orbit Temple began as a place to explore musical ideas that didn't fit into James' professional recording work.

The album Prolusion (2000), was conceived as a digital arts magazine. It featured a dozen guest musicians, plus a CD-ROM section featuring choreography, video art, painting, drawing, sculpture, and more by guest visual artists. As the CD-ROM format has definitely become an artifact of its era, this concept was abandoned after the release of Prolusion.

Newer material is increasingly texture oriented and non-musical, using heavily processed found audio to create evocative concrete soundscapes often paired with video, still photography, and prose.

Collaborations with artists in other mediums continues to expand the scope of the project, taking it further from its music roots. The L.O.T. name is sometimes used for artistic collaborations so as to create an inclusive umbrella that doesn't emphasize one creator's name.

New Left Orbit Temple sonic material has been slowly marinating for several years, and will soon be available on this site, and via the project's Bandcamp page.

In the mean time, enjoy these quarter-century old ("vintage"!) selections from Prolusion, and click on the media player box to go to Bandcamp for more.
